Should reparations be distributed to descendants of slaves? The fascists were demanded to pay reparations to the countries they destroyed in the first and second World Wars, is making amends for this act of historical injustice any different? Is this a viable alternative to affirmative action?

The last thread died, long live the new thread.

Midterms rapidly approaching gomrades. With impeachment proceedings likely on the horizon, the next congress will surely be a historic one.

What do you all think will happen? Let's discuss the spectacle of bourgeois liberal democracy in the era of Gronald Grumph.

Trump recognizes US-backed head of Venezuela’s opposition Juan Guaido as country’s interim president

US President Donald Trump has recognized Venezuela's opposition leader Juan Guaido as interim president in a provocative move against the elected government of Nicolas Maduro.

"Today, I am officially recognizing the President of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Juan Guaido, as the Interim President of Venezuela," Trump said in statement.

He added he would use "the full weight of United States economic and diplomatic power to press for the restoration of Venezuelan democracy" and encouraged other governments in the Western Hemisphere to also recognize Guaido.

Most socialist Jimmy Dore video to date

My man is straight up reading a article. Jimmyis ourguy and I would like to remind you that chapotards HATE him with a passion.

Are their any on the libertarian socialist side of the left that oppose intersectionality?

How would a Socialist state deal with the mentally ill homeless and drug addicts?

Obviously some homeless are that way because of economic conditions. But I'd say overwhelmingly they are drug addicts or schizos.

Anyone that lives in SF or to a lesser extent NYC knows what I'm talking about. They're in the corridors of the BART station shooting up heroin in a puddle of piss, they're masturbating on street corners, flinging poop at people, hurling obscenities at passerbys that don't give them money.

Now those type of guys will refuse treatment, and even if you gave them a home to live in, they would refuse that or use it as a drug den. How can these people fit in a society where as Lenin put it "He who does not work shall not eat". Would they be forcibly rehabilitated? In my city at least, the liberals in charge are absolutely pussyfooting around the issue, or worse add on to it by providing "shoot-up free zones" and free needles (which understandably is good for public health, but attracts more of them)

It seems like a very difficult problem, and I know some leftists are on the complete opposite side and see no problem with this and would prefer to legalize ALL drugs and have no restrictions on public usage. I'm no policy expert but that sounds like a terrible idea.

""Leftist"" Consumer Drone Thread

Is there a sadder sight than people who come on here, learn about leftist theory and the nature of capitalist society and then still go on to post threads asking for "leftist" media, music, video games and other assorted garbage? First, this is pure lifestylism and obsession with shallow aesthetics and secondly, it is willingly engaging in the capitalist culture industry. Before liberals and consumer "leftists" flood this thread, let them remember that all culture is colored by class, whether we are talking about art, music, games, TV shows, literature, etc. All culture has a class-character and anyone denying this is either 1) not Marxist or 2) unknowingly influenced by bourgeois ideology. There will never be genuinely revolutionary mainstream music or media in general. Even your taste for these things has been profoundly manipulated from birth. The easiest way to smoke out a liberal is to mention these undeniable facts.

Demands the current left should be making but aren't

Like the title says, what are some demands that socialist should be making but aren't. I'd like to see more of emphasis on restructuring the current state like in the old Socialist Party of America's program. Pushing for more participatory democracy should be high up on the list. Things like a right to referendum on the national level, abolishing the senate, electing the house proportionally, removing presidential veto power, getting rid of plurality voting etc. are things that socialists in America need to push to the forefront. What demands do you all think are being ignored that should be brought back?

The new Leftist experience is shit

Recently I've seen a lot of people express interest in the left, more than the typical urban milieu of disgruntled neoliberals and centrists – but reactionaries as well. The kind of people who a year ago were happily browsing /pol/ or Catholics who've come to reject the political trappings of American Christianity and endeavor to become more "Christ-like".

Either way they're a pretty disparate group, vaguely class conscious, and they come to certain subreddits wanting to learn more. Typically they'll get redirected to some FAQ or Wiki with about a hundred links some of them good, like the Manifesto, V.I. Lenin's writings etc., others quite dry like Das Kapital. There is no rhyme or reason to their order, no natural progression from one thought to another, no evolution from a simple declaration of belief to a thorough analysis. Needless to say the barrier to entry is quite high.

But those that do power through and read the material probably have questions. So they'll go to another subreddit or forum and get absolutely eaten alive. I've seen people asking good faith questions and woke-scolds come out of the woodwork like little fucking gremlins and treat them like absolute shit, if not simply ban them outright for using ableist slurs like idiot or some other trumped up charge. It's enough to make any non-masochist run for the hills.

I remember getting absolutely dogpiled on the Chapo sub by "Dirtbag leftists" when I simply agreed with Amber's "No wokeness" article. I was just about done with that group, when one of the few sane people left PMd me a link to /leftypol/, and I found my little corner of the internet.

This whole thing is fucked until people come up with a better way of welcoming new people.

Israel pharmaceutical firms test medicines on Palestinian prisoners

Israeli Professor Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian revealed yesterday that the Israeli occupation authorities issues permits to large pharmaceutical firms to carry out tests on Palestinian and Arab prisoners, reported.

The Hebrew University lecturer also revealed that the Israeli military firms are testing weapons on Palestinian children and carry out these tests in the Palestinian neighbourhoods of occupied Jerusalem.

Speaking in Columbia University in New York City, Shalhoub-Kevorkian said that she collected the data while carrying out a research project for the Hebrew University.

“Palestinian spaces are laboratories,” she said. “The invention of products and services of state-sponsored security corporations are fueled by long-term curfews and Palestinian oppression by the Israeli army.”

Global People’s War Now

When did you realize that all first-world praxis is useless and against the interests of the advanced capitalist labor aristocracy? While workers in countries such as America are exploited in relative rates more than ever, the fruits of imperialism nourish them, while consumerism and bourgeois ideology infects their very being. They will forever remain anti-revolutionary bloodsuckers, ruled by tiny capitalist cliques. The cities of the world (the developed west) will be encircled in the global people’s war by the countryside of the world. Just look at how America reacts with the pink tide. The great capital of world exploitation is slowly being surrounded. As a first world labor aristocrat myself, I can only wait for the true revolutionaries to destroy this society and choke it out once and for all. First world praxis is LARPing. If the struggle was real here people wouldn’t be holed up on imageboards or sitting around reading dusty books. The REAL revolutionaries don’t have time, they’re too busy with the worldwide people’s war of the third world exploited.

Daily Reminder

The only way to push a communist line is by mass distribution of no-nonsense pamphlets and booklets. We need an extremely basic entry level non-☭TANKIE☭ introduction into the idea of socialism, especially in America. In burger land socialism is literally

>muh taxes for gibs

>muh free stuff

no norman is going to read a giant-ass book filled with antiqued language from some dead guy in the 1800s. People want engagement they understand. It’s not even that they’re unintelligent per se, it’s just they need to be engaged the way they know how.

The quotations should be understandable and relatable told by understandable and relatable people. Nobody wants to read a quotation from Marx (Huh? Who?) or Engels (literally who?) but they would be interested in the words of student revolutionaries in the original BPP who were assassinated at the hands of the FBI at the age of 21. That’s compelling. Fred Hampton’s lecture on idpol is also extremely compelling and unifying. These are themes that the modern person can relate to. Racism, inequality, poverty, etc. This is what will change the minds of Americans, not one hour long theory youtube videos from some yuro with a picture of Stalin or going full ☭TANKIE☭ on the streets.

What are some topics in sociology, economics, philosophy, anthropology, psychology, or history you think leftists should explore more often, and why?

What would make a good topic of exploration if, say, you were writing a graduate thesis from a leftist perspective in the humanities or social sciences?

So how do you commies generally feel about federalism? Wouldn't it be a lot easier for you to have some gay socialist paradise if states were free to do basically whatever they wanted without the feds getting involved? As long as basic human rights aren't being violated? Say I want to abolish all federal welfare/healthcare programs, stuff like SALT deductions, anything forcing one state to subsidize another, and just let each state succeed or fail based on its own merits. Then you could have your commie state for a decade or two before it collapses, and it only hurts the people that wanted it and the rest of the country can just sit back and laugh.

'Forgiveness' in Communism

In a capitalist town if one "provider" (business) screws me over somehow, then I can always go to another "provider" (business).

If the communist party in a nation (like China) were to screw me over wrongly (all humans are imperfect) then how would I remedy that?

Is there a "forgiveness" program from the Communist party?

Whereas capitalism has 'safeguards' in place (so-called competition), it seems that Communism does not.

If the main 'provider' (The Communist Party) goes around screwing anybody over there's no way for the proletariat to get its necessities from anybody else (like somebody who won't screw them over).

Exactly that only plays into the hands of the reactionary parties and politicians! Because they can represent themselves again as the protectors of the native workers! For example, when the neoliberal capitalists bring foreigners into their countries to let them work for them as cheap laborers, the neoconservative capitalists use this to portray the foreigners as the enemies of the native workers and to present themselves as protectors and by that win the native workers for themselves and their reactionary, neoconservative parties!

Africa Today (Democracy)

Is Africa going backwards on democracy?

More and more elections are being held in Africa however analysts dismiss many as being "lawful but illegitimate". Although studies show that a majority of Africans still want to live in democracies, an increasing number are looking to alternative, autocratic models, reports the BBC's Dickens Olewe.

In the last three years African countries have registered an overall decline in the quality of political participation and rule of law, analysts say.

"Today there are almost the same number of defective democracies (15) as there are hard-line autocracies (16), among the continent's 54 states," Nic Cheeseman, Professor of Democracy at Birmingham University, concludes from his analysis of the last three years.

Nigeria, which will hold its postponed election on Saturday, is among those listed as a "defective democracy".

BO edit: keep discussion of US Democrat & Republican candidates in the containment thread

While attending the University of Chicago, Sanders joined the Young People’s Socialist League, the youth wing of the Socialist Party USA. He also organized for a communist front, the United Packinghouse Workers Union, which at the time was under investigation by the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

After graduating with a political science degree, Sanders moved to Vermont, where he headed the American People’s History Society, an organ for Marxist propaganda. There, he produced a glowing documentary on the life of socialist revolutionary Eugene Debs, who was jailed for espionage during the Red Scare and hailed by the Bolsheviks as “America’s greatest Marxist.”

This subversive hero of Sanders, denounced even by liberal Democrats as a “traitor,” bashed “the barons of Wall Street” and hailed the “triumphant” Bolshevik revolution in Russia.

“Those Russian comrades of ours have made greater sacrifices, have suffered more, and have shed more heroic blood than any like number of men and women anywhere on Earth,” Debs proclaimed. “They have laid the foundation of the first real democracy that ever drew the breath of life in this world.”

In a 1918 speech in Canton, Ohio, Debs reaffirmed his solidarity with Lenin and Trotsky, despite clear evidence of their violent plunder and treachery.

Sanders still hangs a portrait of Debs on the wall in his Senate office.

In the early ’70s, Sanders helped found the Liberty Union Party, which called for the nationalization of all US banks and the public takeover of all private utility companies.

Mainstreaming Sanders requires whitewashing his radical pro-communist past. It won’t be easy to do.

After failed runs for Congress, Sanders in 1981 managed to get elected mayor of Burlington, Vt., where he restricted property rights for landlords, set price controls and raised property taxes to pay for communal land trusts. Local small businesses distributed fliers complaining their new mayor “does not believe in free enterprise.”

His radical activities didn’t stop at the water’s edge.

Sanders took several “goodwill” trips not only to the USSR, but also to Cuba and Nicaragua, where the Soviets were trying to expand their influence in our hemisphere.

In 1985, he traveled to Managua to celebrate the rise to power of the Marxist-Leninist Sandinista government. He called it a “heroic revolution.” Undermining anti-communist US policy, Sanders denounced the Reagan administration’s backing of the Contra rebels in a letter to the Sandinistas.

His betrayal did not end there. Sanders lobbied the White House to stop the proxy war and even tried to broker a peace deal. He adopted Managua as a sister city and invited Sandinista leader Daniel Ortega to visit the US. He exalted Ortega as “an impressive guy,” while attacking President Reagan.

“The Sandinista government has more support among the Nicaraguan people — substantially more support — than Ronald Reagan has among the American people,” Sanders told Vermont government-access TV in 1985.

Sanders also adopted a Soviet sister city outside Moscow and honeymooned with his second wife in the USSR. He put up a Soviet flag in his office, shocking even the Birkenstock-wearing local liberals. At the time, the Evil Empire was on the march around the world, and threatening the US with nuclear annihilation.

Then, in 1989, as the West was on the verge of winning the Cold War, Sanders addressed the national conference of the US Peace Council — a known front for the Communist Party USA, whose members swore an oath not only to the Soviet Union but to “the triumph of Soviet power in the US.”
