Ruined Franchises

Is there any franchise that got ruined harder than Darker Than Black? After a first season that was hugely popular and created a detailed world with near infinite possibilities for storytelling, they created a bland OVA that no one really cared about, and then fucked everything up with a second season the turned the show into a magical girl show and depowered the main character, making sure no one could ever write another story with him again.

There is also another girl called Kasuki. Watch these three girls' surreal school-life comedy.

Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread

I only made this so I can have my question answered edition.

I watch anime with MPC-HC and the Kawaii Codec Pack which I downloaded from Haruhichan. I often have issues with files that have both Japanese dub and English dub added into it which automatically selects either English dub or no subs meaning I have to manually change it everytime. I already tried changing preferences in the options but that didn't change anything. How do I remove the English dub altogether from these files and/or have it automatically select English subs?

Pic related is what I have set as my preferences in terms of audio and subtitles, I know the subtitle one is quite long but I have already tried different things with it and it NEVER picks English subs automatically if there is more than one subtitle track.

Why does this bitch walk around everywhere in a thong? Because virgin manbabies?

Things that after all these years, still get you in a good way, either in comedy, action, romance, lewdness, etc.

>character is politely declining or denying he/she are any good at doing something

>he/she is doing the exact same thing in an amazing way, like saying "I'm not strong" but lifting a ton of shit with one hand

>comically strong and dangerous character that never fights, even the other stronger/calm characters think twice before angering him/her

>if he/she is involved it is awesome, but could easily break the whole story

Extra points for never even lifting their voice or having a crazy face until an actual fight, and even then the character is calm.

>They thought they wouldn't use the CG already paid for

>They thought it'd be 100% handdrawn

>They thought it'd be better because it was handdrawn

The thread for this kuso anime already died its deserved death, but I'm still laughing at you.

Historical anime

Why are there so few works that portray Japanese history without some sort of (or a lot of) craziness like Sengoku Basara? There's so much cool shit they could portray, like the story of each of the Three Spears of Japan, the castle sieges, the Tokugawa family, the arrival of Christian pilgrims and so on. They could clear up misconceptions on things like diehard loyal samurai and the whole mysticism regarding ninja, etc.

Not to mention the 1v1's between field commanders to solve major battles in front of their armies. I think it'd be pretty rad. They don't need to put fantasy shit in it to make it cool, really.

Self-loathing animu

An anon recommended this recently and it hit me like a truck. Are there any other anime or manga that feature self-loathing and resolution?

Summer 2018 in review

What went right? What wrong? Did you notice any new trends?

What shows do you think anons should check out that they might have missed?

I enjoyed Happy Sugar Life and Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight the most.

Happy Sugar Life felt unique. We had shows before of damaged people doing damaged people things like Kuzu no Honkai for example, but HSL in contrast went deeper to show why exactly these people became damaged and how that damage manifests in their lives. The story overall is thrilling because you never really know what the characters are going to do next, although you can sort of predict when shit is going to go hit the fan every time there is an actual twist.

Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight has many layered meanings which might end up taking a few viewings to completely capture. SKRS spends most of its time examining relationships between the girls and why they want to become #1 (as opposed to MC who just wants to be the very best, like no one ever was).

Hanebado! was also unique in that its a drama SoL with a side of sports rather than the typical "it's a sports anime and the characters struggle to get better then go to a tournament and make friends of all our opponents along the way" tripe that is carted out every now and then harukana receive.

Island also tried to do something interesting instead of just being a harem, but unfortunately it just went off the rails and never really recovered. The time travel wasn't well explained inb4 brainlet but they did use it effectively to craft an interesting story that had good plot twists right until the end.

I hope they keep rewarding shows that try to be unique instead of shovelling another soulless isekai harem onto the discard pile.

EU /animu/ stream

Due to the earth being round and people being apart, we've started a new stream for you. Join us every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 13 UTC!

We've just started with Kino no Tabi, and we have a poll to decide what anime to watch next:

Here's the link to the stream, for which you'll need the google drive userscript:

Harukana Receive

Have you ever watched female beach volleyball and when the camera focuses on the girl's ass right before the serve you thought

>Man I could do this all day

Have you ever watched anime T&A and thought

>Man I could do this all day

Upon staring at skindentation do you often find yourself moaning

Well, say no more! I got just the thing for you

Also sports drama.

After a few weeks of planning, we're finally having our first /loli/ anime stream, and you're invited!

The stream will be this Sunday at 12pm EST.

I'll be streaming the videos from google drive, so you may need to run cytube's userscript in order to see it.

For our first stream, I'll be airing Ichigo Mashimaro! A nice classic is good to start with, don't you think? There will be 12 episodes, 3 OVAs, and the 2 Encore OVAs (plus a four-minute short). 17 episodes in a row is quite the marathon, so I'll include a short break after episodes 6 and 12.

It'll be my first time running a stream, so I'm sure there may be some issues. Sorry in advance! I'll do my best to address them.

If it goes well, we can start doing these regularly. I'll accept any suggestions on what you'll like to see in the future. So let's kick back and enjoy some comfy anime!

You guys helped encourage this, so I hope you'll enjoy it.

Does anyone else watch Aikatsu? It's so good! All the girls are really pretty and they sing and dance every single episode. They were really cute outfits too.

Tongari Boushi no Atelier

Normally I'd post this in the manga rec thread, but since this might be interesting I'd thought I make a dedicated thread for it. Tongari Boushi no Atelier is this manga that really reminds me of an old fanatasy novel, that has inking of pre boat Berserk and is a manga I've not heard much of till I stumbled upon it today.

I know there's a million manga threads, but do you guys have any one shots that you like? Her Special Seat was one I liked.

Gamenight Neotokyo

Greetings /animu/ from /vg/ You have been invited to a Neotokyo gamenight.

>What is this shit?

<A source mod depicting a cyberpunk, dystopian japan (Think ghost in the shell), where a nationalist faction in the JSDF, the Jinrai, is vying for control. In response to this threat the prime minister formed the (((NSF))), an acronym for "Nibbling on Soy Food" which fights for the protection of israel in japan.

The game also has a amazing soundtrack.

>Why should I play this shit?

<This is one of the most well made and unique source mods out there, focused on slow paced "tactical" gameplay, no crosshairs, you can lean around corners, a boatload of maps, short TTK, and 3 classes with unique abilities and weapons (I'll get into this later).

>Ok, what should I know before going in?

<There are three classes, recon/assault/support, with light, medium, and heavy armor respectively, these classes have some special abilities, including but not limited to; cloaking, thermal vision, and motionvision.

<You must earn points over the course of a game in order to unlock different weapons, only a few are available at the start.

Other than this I would recommend you look over the keybindings to get a feel for it.

>Just extract the contents anywhere you please, in the NEOTOKYO folder you will find revlauncher.exe, use this to start the game. Report any issues in the thread.

The cancer that is the modern anime industry and how to fix it

I think any non-normalfag anime fan will agree that anime has never been worse than it is now.

The late 80s saw the OVA boom which allowed anime studios to make short series with very fluid animation catered towards niche communities due to high budgets of the time. After that, we had the 90s in which Evangelion made it so that TV anime became a respectable medium as well which didn't just cater to children and produced some very creative works such as Shoujo Kakumei Utena, Serial Experiments Lain, Cowboy Bebop and Berserk. Then we had the 2000s, at this point anime was already somewhat in decline but this was probably the period which saw the most experimentality in both visuals and concepts and gave us shows such as Brigadoon: Marin to Melan, Chikyuu Shoujo Arjuna, Metropolis, Afro Samurai, Princess Tutu, Haibane Renmei and Panty & Stocking.

But now, it seems that anime has become a market led by suits that caters to as large and as young of an audience as possible rather than the otakus of old who mainly consisted of adults. Every year, shows come out that all look the same, have poorly-done animation and the amount of CG in what are supposed to 2D-animated anime increases every year as well. They all follow an already existing set of gimmicks and archetypes rather than trying out new concepts and writing actual characters.

I did not make this thread to discuss the differences between the current era of anime and that of the past nor to be nostalgic about older shows. I'd like to ask the question: what do you think needs to happen for the current age of anime to end? Do you think the future holds more promising anime for us or will Japanese animation continue to decline until nothing is left but a parody of itself?

>inb4 hurr they said this in the 90s as well

They did say that anime was declining in past decades, yes. And they were right, I think the people such as Miyazaki who were already complaining about the state of the anime industry years ago will simply think to themselves "I was right" when looking at what it has become now. So that's not really an argument for why the current decade of anime is supposedly not bad compared to previous ones.
